After last week’s class, we were asked to watch a documentary titled AlphaGo to give us insights about deep learning and AI for the next class. This movie isn’t only for the people in the AI field, but also to help the ones not particularly involved in AI and computers to understand.
Words like ‘deep learning’ and ‘AI’ makes me think of robots, computers, and other programmed and automatic things. To be very honest, maybe it was just me, but before watching the movie, I never thought machines could learn from itself. All I knew was people would input a program and a pattern and try to mimic it every time with no new changes until put another pattern. So I found it surprising when programmers said they trained the machine to play with itself million times to learn from its errors and how it mimics the web of neuron of the human brain. I guess that’s what AI is all about.
“To fundamentally understand intelligence and recreate it artificially to use the technology to help society to solve other sorts of problems.” -AlphaGo Documentary
My takeaway from this movie is data, deep learning, AI can be extremely terrifying and amazing beautiful at the same time. You can do so much from it. It can really be scary to be overpowered as a human by an AI, but then if you look on the brighter side, it can be helpful on our side as well. As it continue to improve and learn something new, we do as well, and lets us see the world around us differently. Unless, of course, if it’s handled by a person with bad intentions contrary to what Kasparov said about how good people and machine being the best combination. It would be dangerous and can lead to a great disaster or problem. Soooo yeah, I’m feeling 50/50 on this one.
Overall, IT’S INDEED A GREAT MOVIE. It made me want to watch more like this.
